CUPRUM a performance at NDSM Ferrotopia, Amsterdam (November 30, 2018) : soap, earth, water, copper, video, paint.
Copper was used to produce mirrors in ancient times and was associated with the goddess Aphrodite/Venus in Roman and Greek mythology and in medieval alchemy.
This purification ritual was performed inside an installation mounted on an iron forge dirt bed incorporating copper, industrial soap, and a mud fountain with a dimly lit video projected on a painted backdrop.
The pumping sound of an amplified heartbeat green soap bubbling in a caldron, the clang of hammered copper the heat and smell of fire.
